Reports: ESPN scraps NFL concussion documentary after pressure from Roger Goodell

The New York Times is reporting that ESPN has pulled out of a joint documentary about concussions after pressure from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell . According to the Times heads of ESPN and NFL sat down for a meeting in NY that was described as "combative"
league officials conveyed their displeasure with the direction of the documentary, which is expected to describe a narrative that has been captured in various news reports over the past decade: the league turning a blind eye to evidence that players were sustaining brain trauma on the field that could lead to profound, long-term cognitive disability.

The NFL and ESPN have both released statements denying the report .

The NFL is currently in court-ordered mediation with more than 5,000 former players suing the league for negligence over the issue of head injuries.

ESPN and the NFL have a 10-year, $1 billion annual deal for broadcast rights to Monday Night Football, the network's highest rated show
